Ashes To Gold

We all have sadness inside, some have it closer to the surface than others. Mine undulates. One day it is far away, deep in the bottom of my soul, other days it comes roaring to the surface, sometimes without warning.

When I heard the phrase “Ashes to Gold”, I was at an outdoor concert. Music feeds my peace. I hear God speak to me through music. This phrase resonated with me. I instantly thought of how beautiful it is to acknowledge the two together, ashes and gold.

There is beauty in ashes, in our sadness, in our dark as well as in our gold, our light. We are who we are because of both our sadness and our light, it has shaped us and defined us.

That is how this quilt came to be. I knew I needed to design a quilt that reflected my dark, my sadness, as well as the overwhelming light that is in my life. Because I can acknowledge the Ashes in my life, I have a heart full of unlimited gratitude for the gift of the Gold that I have been blessed with. The Gold is much more dominant in this quilt than the Ashes. That is intentional. Even though the sadness has days where it is strong, when I look back over my life, I see that the happiness and joy is constant.

That is my hope for those who piece my quilts, that they see how much joy they have right in front of them, and that the sadness is less and less. Find joy, share love, and be blessed.
